DIY Barbie Dolls Miniature Halloween Makeover

Barbie doll makeover

Blog intro

Art Supplies

1. Acrylic Paints: I used FolkArt Multi-Surface. Black, red, white, brown, and blue. I also used a different shade of red paint called "Red Apple" from Apple barrel. The reason for this is because I used two different shades of red for the ballerina. For metallic paintings: folk art brushed metal silver & gold, and DecoArt: metallics Amethyst & Enchanted iridescent paint.

2. Tools: detail art brush, acrylic paint pens: black/white, and a toothpick

3. Embellishments: Halloween stickers, gem mesh, diamond wrap, glitter ribbon, and red & black string.

4. Masking tape

5. Tacky glue

Step 1

This art project is pretty self-explanatory. You just paint, color, and play! There is no wrong or right way to do this. You can look up inspiration or paint in the moment as the ideas comes to you. I did a little bit of both. Below are my process pics and inspiration collage.

Process of my art

I paint their clothes white to give me a blank start. This helped me to see what I could turn them into. As you can see I started painting the last doll's dress black. I used masking tape to get their hair out of the way.

Process of my art

Here are my ideas starting to come to life.

Harley Quinn inspired Halloween Barbie

This Barbie inspired a Harley Quinn costume. Seems fitting to me to be inspired by this Harley Quinn look especially since Margot Robbie played both Barbie and Harley Quinn. I used the toothpick to apply her makeup. I used a black paint pen for the black heart on her cheek and the black diamonds on her skirt. For her jewelry I used diamond wrap and painted a little gold paint on them. Her fishnet tights were made with black string and glue. Last I painted her costume on and did her hair in two pony tails.

Halloween Barbie ballerina miniature

This Barbie inspired Jody Sawyer's character from the movie "Center Stage". I love this movie! This is were I used two different red paints and little bit of enchanted iridescent paint to her a little sparkle. I also put red ribbons in her hair.

Halloween Barbie miniature

This Barbie was inspired by her dress. I noticed the bottom of the dress had crystals and I wanted to pull out the details. Slowly she started to become a celestial woman with a half painted skull face. I used black paint pen and white paint for her face. I painted the crystals, crown, and dots with folk art brushed metal silver first. Then I painted on top of that with metallics amethyst & enchanted iridescent paint for her dress and crown. I painted her face white and used black acrylic paint pen. For her embellishments I used one Halloween sticker for her dress, gem mesh for front of dress, and glitter ribbon for her hair tie. The sticker was plastic so I did need to use a little bit of super glue to glue down the edges.

All done! Here they are all the Barbies together ready to go to a Halloween party.
